Librarian’s Meet 2014 and KLA Ernakulam Region General Body Meeting

Kerala Library Association Ernakulam Region is organizing a Librarian’s Meet on 10th May 2014 from 10.00 a.m. to 02.00 p.m. at St. Teresa’s College Auditorium in Ernakulum.

It is for the first time a librarian’s meet is being organized at Ernakulam region. Kerala Library Association (KLA) is an association of professionally qualified librarians formed on 13.11.1972 and from the first day onwards KLA has been able to represent the interests of the qualified librarians working in different libraries, always with due foresight and objectivity, keeping in view the proper development of the libraries and library services in the state and also for creating necessary public opinion in matters of policy relating to library and library service in the state. The achievements of KLA spanning over a period of three decades of steady progress is well reflected in the developmental history of library movement in Kerala. The association has played a pivotal role in the scientific management and quality improvement of Library and Information System (LIS) in the State. For the proper and efficient functioning of the association regional committees were formed.

About Ernakulam Region:

Ernakulam and Alapuzha districts, comes under the jurisdiction of Kerala Library Association  Ernakulam Region. Ernakulam Region has all types of libraries and librarians. Most of them are in Academic,special libraries and public library sector. All together more than 400 library professionals are working in this region. One of the reasons for conducting this programme is to unite the professional in this region and to bring the professionals under the one platform even in different scenario.

Ernakulam Region has so far held several seminars, workshops and conferences to help the professionals to improve and updated the latest developments in LIS. As a part of social responsibility we also organise seminars for public also.
In order to uplift the libraries in our region we have launched a major initiative of offering consultancy services, under this programme we extend professional help to all the libraries in the region for automation as well as in digitization. We undertake project works to re-organize and modernizelibraries/library collections using open source library managementsoftware KOHA and also help to develop digital depositaries using DSpace an open source repository software package typically used for creating open access repositories for scholarly and/or published digital content. As a part of its extension work the members of Ernakulam region give technical and man power support to develop and organise new libraries

Objective
Main objective of this programme is to unite all libraries of Ernakulam Region and to bring the library professionals in one platform and to be acquaintance with each other. Other objectives include promoting library movement in the region, and to provide
better library services. We also plan to felicitate the recent (2012-14) rank holders in
BLIS/MLIS and PhD holders in the region.

Who can participate?

KLA members and all library professionals working/residing in the Ernakulum and Alapuzha region can attend the meet.  It includes Librarian’s working in the special libraries, college libraries, Engineering college libraries, medical librarians, public libraries etc. BLISc/MLISc /PhD holders in library science can also attend the librarians meet.
