Linux Training Programme for LIS Professionals and Students

A training programme on Linux aimed at LIS professionals and students was organised jointly by Kerala Library Association, Kottayam Region and St. Joseph’s College of Engineering and Technology, Pala on 18 August 2012.

Thirty participants registered in the workshop. Vimal Kumar V., Secretary, KLA Kottayam Region of  Mahatma Gandhi University and Jasimudeen S., Librarian, St. Stephen’s College, Uzhavoor were acted as resource persons. Justine Thomas, Librarian, SJCET, Pala was the convenor the programme.

Fr. Jose Viruppel, President, KLA Kottayam Region made an introductory speech and introduced resource persons to participants.

Hands on training on Linux Mint ( in a well equipped computer was the main attraction of the programme. Introduction to Linux desktop, file management, familiarization of various applications, installation of Linux Mint, adding and removal of applications are covered in the training. Linux Mint Live DVD distributed among participants.

In a special session, Mr. Justine Joseph given a brief introduction to Kerala Library Association and its contributions for LIS community in Kerala.
